A beautiful, wooded site in a rural setting in Indiana was the canvas for this modern home. The client was looking to celebrate and enjoy this remarkable piece of nature with a home that worked with its features, not fight them. Situated on a hilltop, the home takes advantage of its setting offering scenic four-season views in all directions. The design team established the ideal positions for the home’s experiences on the site and arranged them in a simple pair of rectangular volumes. The two volumes collide at the center, the most active and lived-in spaces, including the living room, dining room, and kitchen. A cantilevered bar floats above the land and hovers among the site’s mix of birch, maple, and beech trees. The interior is simple and bright, letting the site be the accessory and the dynamic of seasonal change to be the spectacle to enjoy.
"IA designed a 60,000 square foot hospital building for us. We were very pleased with the result, so we asked them to design our home. The firm had excellent follow-through and responsiveness. They were a pleasure to work with."
